How It Works

Step-by-step guide to navigating MapleLion Gigs

Getting Paid

Simple and timely payments for your work.

  • Regular Payment Schedule: Payments are processed on the last Friday of each month for all completed work during that period.
  • Payment Methods:
    • Bank Transfer: Payments are primarily disbursed through bank transfers directly to your registered account. Please ensure your payment details are accurate and up to date to avoid any delays.
    • PayPal: You can choose to receive payments via PayPal, providing a convenient and widely accepted option. Ensure your PayPal account information is correctly entered in your profile.
    • Cash Payments: In certain cases, payments may be made in cash. If this option is selected, specific instructions will be provided regarding the collection process.
    • Other Payment Methods: Depending on specific circumstances or employer preferences, other payment methods might also be acceptable. Please contact support for more details if you have special requests or requirements.
  • Where to Update: To update your payment details, log into your MapleLion Gigs account and go to your profile settings. You can update your bank account, PayPal, or other payment methods there.

  • Steps to Update:

    • Bank Account: Enter your new bank details, including the account number and account holder’s name. Double-check for accuracy to avoid delays.
    • PayPal: Simply update your PayPal email address. Make sure it’s linked to an active account.
    • Cash Payments: If you prefer cash, indicate this in your settings. You’ll get instructions on how to collect your payment.
  • Notifications: You’ll receive emails when your payment has been processed or if there’s an issue with your payment information. Keep your details up to date to ensure smooth transactions.

  • Need Help? If you have any issues updating your payment info, our support team is ready to assist you.

  • Self-Reporting: As a freelancer in Japan, you are responsible for reporting and paying taxes on your earnings. MapleLion Gigs does not withhold taxes on your behalf, so it’s important to track your income and report it during the annual tax filing period, known as kakutei shinkoku.

  • Types of Taxes:

    • Income Tax (所得税): Freelancers must report all income on their annual tax return. The tax rate is progressive, so it varies based on your total income.
    • Resident Tax (住民税): This local tax is based on your previous year’s income and is paid to your city or prefecture in installments.
  • Deductions: You may be eligible to deduct business-related expenses such as office supplies, internet, and transportation. Consult a tax professional to understand which deductions apply to you.

  • Filing Deadlines: The income tax filing period in Japan is typically between February 16 and March 15 for the previous year’s income. Be sure to file on time to avoid penalties.

  • Get Help: Japan’s tax system can be complex, so consider consulting a tax professional who can guide you through the process and ensure you’re compliant with all regulations.
